Nisha Vijayakumar is an assistant professor of public health at Nova Southeastern University. She holds a doctorate and master's degree in public health from the University of South Florida, along with graduate certificates in biostatistics and epidemiology. Trained originally as a dentist in India, she brings a global and interdisciplinary perspective to public health education and research.

Vijayakumar’s research focuses on environmental exposures and their impacts on maternal and child health, with an emphasis on early-life exposure to chemicals such as phthalates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. She has coauthored several peer-reviewed publications, presented at national conferences, and has been grateful to receive support through research awards and fellowships. Her current work explores environmental exposures across different life stages, particularly in relation to maternal and child health.

In addition to her research, Vijayakumar is a dedicated educator and mentor, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in epidemiology, biostatistics, and environmental health. She actively contributes to the scientific community through interdisciplinary collaborations, student-research mentorship, and service as a peer reviewer for academic journals. She is involved in departmental research initiatives and committees and remains committed to advancing public health knowledge through rigorous investigation and dissemination of findings in the areas of environmental and maternal and child health.
