Dr. Kim received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Daegu University, Korea and a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He also received a Postdoctoral Fellowship training in Biomechanics and Movement Science from the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware.

Dr. Kim’s primary teaching focus is on neurorehabilitation and evidence-based practice, where he emphasizes the integration of research and clinical expertise to enhance patient care outcomes. Dr. Kim currently teaches Evidence-Based Practice, Neurologic Physical Therapy, and Systems Management courses. He also serves as a mentor for the Capstone Project and on the dissertation committee.

Dr. Kim’s main research interests include robot-assisted rehabilitation, assistive technology, neuromuscular control, and motor learning in individuals with neurological disorders such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and ataxia. He has been involved in multiple NIH and NSF grants, developing novel gait and balance training programs for neurologic patients. Dr. Kim has also participated in several foundation grants aimed at identifying biomarkers for individuals with neurological conditions. In addition, he has filed a number of patent applications, one of which has been granted a patent.

Dr. Kim worked as a physical therapist in outpatient rehabilitation settings and at the VA Patient Safety Center of Inquiry. At present, he does not participate in direct patient care because of his responsibilities in teaching and research.

Dr. Kim has been a member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 1999 and is currently a member of the Neurology and Research Academies. He is also a member of the Florida Physical Therapy Association and serves on the Awards Committee. Dr. Kim has served as a peer reviewer for several professional journals and on an NSF grant review panel. Additionally, he has participated in the Special Olympics as a Clinical Director.
