Dr. Kaploun has clinical and teaching interests in the areas of neurogenic communication disorders, impacting speech, language, and cognition, especially related to Parkinson’s disease and related disorders. In addition, she shows interest in counseling people presenting with those disorders and their loved ones as they cope with living with those disorders.

Dr. Kaploun is involved with preparing students for their clinical practice and counseling through her supervision of graduate students in their clinical practica and through a grant involving educating students to support their future clients in facing challenges.

Dr. Kaploun teaches graduate courses: SLP 6020 Language Disorders in Adults, SLP 6052 Motor Speech Disorders in Adults, and counseling in speech-language pathology. She mentors students at all levels of the program, including the undergraduate capstone experience, graduate students who are struggling with their coursework, and doctoral dissertation committee members.

Dr. Kaploun serves on multiple committees within the program and college, supporting student engagement and mental health, faculty development, and program evaluation.
