Dr. Carter's areas of specialization include multicultural education, focusing on local and global culturally responsive practices interwoven through healthcare and education settings, and pediatric and school-age language development, disorders, and learning disabilities. She teaches graduate courses, supervises graduate students at a charter school, and advocates for effective practices for culturally and linguistically diverse populations, understanding the social, political, and historical factors influencing collaborative assessment and intervention services. Dr. Carter has served as the Georgia State Metro Consortium representative, working with the state to discuss the speech and language profession and suggesting action plans to improve service delivery for speech-language pathologists working in school districts and is a current advisor and consultant to the Georgia DeKalb County Board of Health Babies Can't Wait Early Intervention Program.
