Student Training: 

  • Student Elective Research Courses: 
    • COM 9600 A (OMS-I or II students)
    • COM 9600 B (OMS-IV students)
    • Research Year COM 9601 & 9602 (OMS-III students)
  • The students taking part in these courses may develop an original research project and/or participate in a research mentor’s scientific research in a health-related field. Publications and/or presentations are expected outcomes from the work.

Graduate Medical Education:

Pre-clinical OMS-II Research Fellowship program:

Students will participate in conducting an individual research project, the writing of scholarly articles or participate in an ongoing study. In addition, they will participate in regular meetings with their research mentor and participate in scheduled rounds with other COM fellows.

PFRDG Grant

PFRDG directly supports Vision 2025’s research-focused core values and strategic priorities by providing seed money for new research, expanding current research initiatives to new levels of competitiveness, and supporting scholarly activities that contribute to general disciplinary knowledge. Each PRG award is funded 50% from interest on university-invested funds, and 50% from the winning applicant’s College as matching funds.

Quality of Life Grant 

Quality of Life Faculty Community-Based Applied Research Grants are awarded for proposals which fall under one or more of the following 6 categories: Autism; Criminal Justice; Children and Families; Adult General; Elderly Services; and Foster Care.

Grant Writing for KPCOM

Biostatistical Support 

The NSU MD Statistical Consulting Center (NMSCC) is a service and research unit of Nova Southeastern University’s College of Allopathic Medicine. Its staff provides statistical services to faculty, primary researchers, graduate students, and staff of the University. The NMSCC covers all aspects of a quantitative research project ranging from the initial study design to the presentation of the final research conclusions.

RedCAP

REDCap is a secure web platform for building and managing online databases and surveys. REDCap provides automated export procedures for seamless data downloads to Excel and common statistical packages (SPSS, SAS, Stata, R), as well as a built-in project calendar, a scheduling module, ad hoc reporting tools, and advanced features, such as branching logic, file uploading, and calculated fields.

Clarivate Analytics offers a suite of research software solutions for managing citations. EndNote® is available as a downloadable option for your computer and an online option that you may access via any Internet connected computer.  EndNote® provides hundreds of formatting styles, and provides the industry standards for publishing and managing bibliographies and reference lists. 

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) has licensed Clarivate's EndNote products listed below for authorized use by all NSU faculty, staff, and students who have permission to download, install, and use this software on personal computers and laptops. Cureus Journal

KPCOM students can participate in research within the medical curriculum, research elective courses as well as awards and fellowships. These opportunities include: COM 9600 research elective courses, the OMS-II Research Fellowship, Dr. Kenneth Burnell Student Research Award and the Blue Ribbon Fellowship (OMS-IV). Each of these opportunities engages students in the research process, providing them insight into what research entails and how the results of these efforts impact clinical practice and future research efforts.
