Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice (CIPEP)

Who We Are

Located within the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine's Office of Research and Innovation the Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice (CIPEP) has been established to support interprofessional learning and collaborative practice at Nova Southeastern University's Health Professions Division, with the goal of enhancing patient-centered and community-oriented care through providing our students, faculty, and staff with opportunities to purposefully learn and work together.

An interprofessional model of care is supported by the principles of osteopathic medicine. In fact, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine partnered with five other national health professions associations to develop Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice.

What is Interprofessional Education (IPE)?

The WHO describes IPE as when students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. Interprofessional education is necessary to develop the skills to achieve interprofessional collaborative practice. Interprofessional Collaboration is when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, caregivers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care.
