Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice (CIPEP)

Who We Are

Located within the College of Osteopathic Medicine's Office of Research and Innovation the Center for Interprofessional Education and Practice (CIPEP) has been established to support interprofessional learning and collaborative practice at Nova Southeastern University's Health Professions Division, with the goal of enhancing patient-centered and community-oriented care through providing our students, faculty, and staff with opportunities to purposefully learn and work together.

An interprofessional model of care is supported by the principles of osteopathic medicine. In fact, the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine partnered with five other national health professions associations to develop Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice.

What is Interprofessional Education (IPE)?

The WHO describes IPE as when students from two or more professions learn about, from and with each other to enable effective collaboration and improve health outcomes. Interprofessional education is necessary to develop the skills to achieve interprofessional collaborative practice. Interprofessional Collaboration is when multiple health workers from different professional backgrounds work together with patients, families, caregivers, and communities to deliver the highest quality of care.

About the ILP

The Interprofessional Leadership Program (ILP) is a new and exciting opportunity for dual-degree seeking students to enhance their educational experience at NSU. The program is open to any student who will be supplementing their health-related professional degree with a Master of Public Health and is in good academic standing. Along with leadership development, the program will focus on community-oriented care, cultural competency, and team-based skills. These skills, along with the opportunity for national exposure and publication possibilities, will not only be valuable additions to a resume but will also help to set students apart when applying for residency.

The ILP program includes:

  • monthly journal clubs
  • HPD connections café
  • program-specific electives to be taken as part of the MPH
  • opportunities to participate in national conferences
  • publication possibilities


Two certificates are available for students who complete program requirements. These certificates would be used for resume enhancement but will not appear on an official transcript as they are not graduate certificates.
