Information for Transfer Students

Applicants or enrollees of the Master of Science in Disaster and Emergency Management Program (MSDEM) may petition for a transfer of up to 12 credit hours toward their degree from an accredited institution.

To be considered for transfer of credit, courses must have been completed prior to admission to the MSDEM Program and less than five years prior to the beginning of the student's first semester in the MSDEM Program. All courses to be transferred must be substantially equivalent to courses offered in the program, as determined by the Program Director and appropriate faculty.

All courses considered for transfer into the program must have been successfully completed with a grade of "B" (80) or better. Transfer course grades are not calculated toward the students Grade Point Average.

An accepted applicant to the program who wishes to receive transfer credit must submit a written request along with the appropriate verification documents (e.g., official transcripts, syllabi, and catalogs) to the Program Director.

  • Make sure you meet all admissions requirements, including submitting official transcripts of all college work (including osteopathic transcripts), MCAT scores, National Board scores if available, and letters of evaluation
  • Demonstrate good standing at the transferring institution, as documented by a letter from the dean of the transferring institution
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member of the transferring institution
  • Provide a written statement outlining reasons for request for transfer

Please note that approved transfers may come only from medical school programs accredited by LCME or COCA.

Transfer students must meet the program admissions criteria. The courses that may be transferred into the program will be determined on a case-by-case basis and must be deemed comparable in level, content, and rigor to those within the D.M.F.T. or Ph.D. in Couple and Family Therapy program. 

 

Applicants or enrollees of the Health Informatics Program may petition for a transfer of a maximum of six (6) credit hours toward their degree from a regionally accredited institution for degree-seeking students. Any exceptions require the written approval of the program director.

To be considered for transfer of credit, courses must have been completed less than five years prior to the beginning of the student's first semester in the program. All courses to be transferred must be substantially equivalent to courses offered in the program, as determined by the Program Director and appropriate faculty.

All courses considered for transfer into the program must have been successfully completed with a grade of "B" (80%) or better. Transfer course grades are not calculated toward the student’s Grade Point Average.

An accepted applicant to the program who wishes to receive transfer credit must submit a written request along with the appropriate verification documents (e.g., official transcripts, syllabi, and catalogs) to the Program Director.

Applicants or students who wish to have a preliminary evaluation of potential transfer credits by the Program Director before submitting an official request to the Curriculum Committee should send a copy of the course syllabus to msbi@nova.edu requesting a preliminary evaluation.

For students seeking admittance after attending another institution, credits may be transferred into the NSU program. Credits will be determined on a case-by-case basis and must be deemed comparable in level, content, and rigor to those within the M.S. in Medical Education program. All transfer students must satisfy the admissions requirements and complete all admissions procedures.

Applicants or enrollees of the Master of Science in Nutrition program may petition for a maximum transfer of six (6) credit hours toward their degrees from a regionally accredited institution for degree-seeking students. Any exceptions require the written approval of the program director.

To be considered for transfer of credit, courses must have been:

  • Completed less than three years prior to the beginning of the student’s first semester in the program
  • Substantially equivalent to courses offered in the program, as determined by the program director and appropriate faculty members
  • Successfully completed with a grade of B (80%) or better

Transfer course grades are not calculated toward the student’s grade point average.

An accepted applicant to the program who wishes to receive transfer credit must submit a written request and the appropriate verification documents (e.g., official transcripts, syllabi, and catalogs) to the program director.

Applicants or matriculated students of the M.P.H. program may petition for transfer of a maximum of four courses (12 credits) of elective or core courses toward their M.P.H. degrees from a regionally accredited graduate program.

Please note:

  • Any core courses to be transferred must have been taken at a program, school, or college accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
  • While the student is enrolled in NSU’s M.P.H. program, any courses taken at another academic program or institution that the student desires to transfer as credit to the M.P.H. program must have prior approval by the NSU program director.
  • All courses considered for transfer into the program must have been successfully completed with a grade of B or better and must not have been applied to another awarded degree.
  • Transfer course grades are not calculated toward the student’s grade point average.
  • The applicant must submit a written request to the Curriculum Committee (e.g., official transcripts, syllabi, and catalogs). The Curriculum Committee will review the documents and will submit recommendations to the program director.
  • The program does not give course credits for prior work experience.

Information for International Students

Foreign nationals who reside outside the United States at the time of application and whose native language is not English must present evidence of proficiency in English by satisfactorily completing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Score requirements are as follows: minimum paper score = 550; minimum computerized score = 213; minimum Internet score = 79. A score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (ILETS) exam is accepted in lieu of the TOEFL.

Resident Alien students are required to submit a copy of their Resident Alien card.

International applicants are required to obtain an F-1 student visa in order to study on campus at NSU. International candidates who intend to study in the United States are required to obtain an I-20 form from NSU and must be full-time, degree-seeking students, and must attend classes in the South Florida area or at any one of NSU’s regional campuses in the state of Florida.
