Theodore Hollar has served as an evaluator for federally funded initiatives addressing long COVID research participation, COVID-19 health literacy, hazardous materials trainings for maritime workers, tobacco, childhood obesity, patient-centered medical home transformation, interprofessional primary care and public health, housing opportunities for people with AIDS, and school-based programming for at-risk youth. He has performed foundation and corporation-funded research and evaluation in the areas of zoning and urban planning, sports and physical activity, diabetes education, patient experience of care in federally qualified community health centers, cancer screening and education for underserved women, and childhood obesity prevention and intervention in public schools.

Hollar’s current research focuses on policy, systems, and environmental change for improving the health of populations; political and administrative determinants of health; and social vulnerability. Hollar has published his work in peer-reviewed journals, such as the American Journal of Public Health, Journal of Public Health Management and Practice, and the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved, to list a few.

Hollar teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in health policy, planning, and evaluation. He also served as chairperson of the Health Advisory Board for Broward County, Humana Bold Goal Broward initiative, and as a board member for the L.A. Lee YMCA. He currently serves as a board member for The Fruitful Field, a not-for-profit urban farm with agriculturally oriented, social-service programming, and as a member of the Research Advisory Group for Healthy Democracy, Healthy People, a nonpartisan initiative aimed at realizing health equity by advancing inclusive democracy.

Additionally, Hollar is an alumnus of the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine’s Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship, Class of 2011–2012.
