NSU-KPCOM is committed to offering a competitive salary and benefits package to the Correctional Medicine (CM) Fellows in keeping with the requirements and the NSU Office of Human Resources.

Salary (Effective Academic Year 2023-2024) = $66,749

Payment to Fellows shall be in accordance with Nova Southeastern University’s regular payroll and expense reimbursement protocols.

Paid Time Off (PTO) – Sick, Vacation, Continuing Medical Education, and Family Medical Leaves

CM Fellows are afforded:

  • Sick Leave – Up to 5 days per year
  • Vacation Leave – Advanced up to 22 days of vacation on July 1. Vacation Days are subject to approval by the Program Director. See the Vacation and Leave of Absences Policy in the KPCOM Graduate Medical Education Manual and the NSU Employee Manual. Both manuals are available online.
  • Continuing Medical Education (CME) – 5 days per year
  • Family Medical Leave – Consistent with NSU Family Leave policy for “faculty and senior administrators” and subject to approval by the Program Director.
  • Extended leave may impact the program completion date and PTO may be limited due to CM Fellowship rotation training requirements. Excessive time away from training, beyond what is noted, may result in an extension of training time.

Malpractice:

See the Professional Liability Insurance Policy in the KPCOM Sponsoring Institution Handbook. KPCOM will, at its own expense, add the CM Fellow as a participant under Nova Southeastern University’s professional liability program that provides a minimum of one million dollars per incident/three million dollars aggregate on an occurrence basis with no deductible by the CM Fellow.  Coverage is not available under Nova Southeastern University’s professional liability program for services performed by the CM Fellow outside of assigned Program activities (e.g., when the Fellow is moonlighting, no coverage is afforded under the University’s professional liability program).

Employee Benefits:

The following benefits are available to all CM Fellows in accordance with current Personnel Policies of Nova Southeastern University (NSU):

  • Access to Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, and Flexible Spending Plans (Health Care and Dependent Care) starting the first day of employment.
  • Free Group Life Insurance and Long-term and Short-term disability after 3 months of employment – 100% of the annual premium is paid by NSU. Gap insurance is also available through NSU. Information can be found on the NSU Human Resources website.
  • Access to the NSU Employee Assistance Program, confidential counseling services, consistent with such benefits offered to University employees in the “faculty and senior administrators” job category.
  • Tax Deferred Annuity 401(K) starting the first day of employment.

The CM Fellow will be entitled to utilize the designated on-call rooms provided by the training site when on-call.

To be eligible for reimbursement, all travel arrangements and expenses must conform to the NSU Employee Travel Policy. Each training year, up to 5 paid days off are allowed for approved conferences above and beyond paid vacation time.
