Welcome Message

Welcome, Prospective Students,

At the crossroads of the dynamic, interdisciplinary fields of health care and information technology rest the unique field of health informatics (HI), which is continuously evolving, meeting current needs while forging and developing HI solutions projected for the future. This has placed great demands for well-trained, competent HI professionals, as stated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, since the HI field is growing faster than average for all other occupations (2019–2029).

In response to this growing need, Nova Southeastern University’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine has established an undergraduate degree program in health informatics. We are excited to bring this innovative HI program to fruition. This undergraduate degree program is housed in the same college that awards the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree and is the only program in the nation to offer a combined B.S./D.O. dual-admission option.

The B.S. in Health Informatics degree program represents a collaborative effort between two NSU colleges—the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Computing and Engineering. The B.S. in Health Informatics program is focused on applying health information technology to real-world scenarios. The core curriculum is structured to guide students down a path to build critical HI foundational knowledge, skills and attitudes. Students will have ample learning opportunities for interprofessional engagement.

The esteemed faculty members at both colleges bring a wealth of HI industry experience into the classroom. They are engaged and eager to share what they have learned with you. I look forward to meeting and working with you in this innovative academic program.

Be part of the inaugural class of the health informatics program that is accepting applications for fall 2021.

Please review the details of NSU’s Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics major and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Michelle Ramim, Ph.D. MBA
Interim Director, B.S. in Health Informatics
