A Message from the SGA President, Regina Zambrano, OMS-III

To my NSU-KPCOM Student-Body,

I am so excited to serve you as your Student Government President for the 2019-2020 school year! I urge you all to get involved in the many clubs, organizations, and interest groups SGA has to offer. One aspect I would like to touch upon is SGA's involvement with the Council of Student Government Presidents (COSGP).

What is the COSGP? How are us students involved at Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine? It starts by getting involved. The COSGP is an official council of the American Association of College of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM). The Council was was established in 1972 and was originally known as the "Council of Student Presidents.”

As representatives of the Student Government Association at NSU-KPCOM, we are dedicated to ensuring our student body has a voice that is heard nationally. To achieve this, your SGA President and President-Elect attend quarterly COSGP meetings around the country to discuss matters that are important to not only osteopathic students and physicians, but also to the growth and efficiency of the medical field. The President and President-Elect from each osteopathic medical school in the country attend these quarterly meetings with us, and we collaborate to make osteopathic medical schools a better place. If you ever want to be heard at the national level, please bring your concerns to your President and President-Elect, and we will ensure your voice is heard.

COSGP has created many programs to recognize students who go above and beyond. Be recognized for your volunteer work by creating a TOUCH account and logging hours to receive an award. While you're at it, check out The Pulse, the national publication of Osteopathic medical students. Several NSU-KPCOMCOM students have published articles in this newsletter!

COSGP Programs and their representatives ensure that NSU-COM actively participates in:

  • Student Doctor of the Year Award
  • Student Researcher of the Year Award
  • TOUCH Award Program
  • The Pulse publication
  • Quarterly COSGP meetings
  • Annual AOA House of Delegates conference in Chicago
  • If you every have any questions, please never hesitate to reach out. I wish you an amazing school year full of learning in and out of the classroom!

~ Regina Zambrano, OMS-III
