Nova Southeastern University's Basic Life Support (BLS) course teaches participants how to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide high-quality CPR to victims of all ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely manner. All participants are monitored by NSU instructors and given feedback during skill sessions.
Upon successful completion of the BLS course, participants will be issued an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS provider card valid for 2 years from the course completion date.

All participants will receive experience with adult and infant practice manikins, practice AEDs, bag-valve masks, and barrier devices.
Our BLS course is designed for healthcare professionals and pre-hospital providers who need to know how to perform high quality CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in prehospital and in-facility settings. Previous participants who have taken our course include:
If you need BLS certification ASAP or if you just don't have enough time to attend a full class our AHA blended course format may be the best option for you.
In the blended course format, participants learn the concepts of BLS in an online eLearning format to be completed at their own pace. Upon successful completion of the eLearning section, participants can then schedule an appointment with NSU's Division of EMS Education & Training to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on our practice manikins with a NSU instructor. BLS skill sessions are offered Monday - Friday on our main campus.
Participants who successfully complete both the online and in-person sessions will receive the same AHA BLS provider card as our in-class offering. Certifications are valid for 2 years from the course completion date.
