About Research and Innovation

Housed under the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Office of Research and Innovation identifies extramural research as well as training grant and other externally funded opportunities. This important office is also tasked with mentoring faculty throughout the college who want to improve, expand, and/or perform grant initiatives that include research and new educational opportunities relevant to their department and/or their personal development in academia. In concert with faculty, the Office of Research and Innovation prepares grants and /or contract proposals for submission to federal and local granting agencies as well as the private sector. These have included the Health Resources and Services Administration, National Institutes of Health, and the Florida Department of Health. More than $16 million in grants was received between 2000 and 2010. In 2010, nearly $8 million was received including HRSA Predoctoral and Interprofessional training grants, a Health Information Technology grant, and the continuation of a grant for the NSU-COM Geriatric Education Center. The Institute for Disaster and Emergency Preparedness also received an NIH Maritime Safety and Oil Rig Safety grant. The faculty in OEPR provides mentorship to and leadership experiences for NSU-COM osteopathic medicine, public health and related health professions students, interested in research (including protocol development as well as project implementation and evaluation).

The Office of Research and Innovation is the umbrella department for several grant initiatives. The department includes the following centers/institutes:
