Disaster and Emergency Preparedness

Disasters have become more complex, as has the planning and recovery from these incidents. Get ahead of the chaos with a unique Master of Science degree in Disaster and Emergency Preparedness.

What you’ll study

From the local to the international level, you’ll study the theory of emergency management and develop the skills required to be a leader in this interprofessional field. All students cover the areas of all-hazards prevention, response, mitigation, and recovery. You may choose a specialty track in maritime safety and security, cyber security, criminal justice, public health, or fire administration.

How you’ll learn more

Courses are taught by both academics and emergency management professionals and the online format offers flexibility for working professionals.  Your experience at NSU includes a community internship or research practicum in your area of specialty, and connects you with experts in the field.  Interprofessional classes expose you to the ideas and perspectives of professionals from criminal justice, fire service, public health, medicine and nursing, public administration, gerontology, biomedical informatics, and health and child protective services.

Where it can take you

The public and private sectors need leaders who can take a proactive approach to all-hazards preparedness. Job growth in the field is predicted to remain strong, and organizations at the local, national, and international levels are investing heavily in the field.

Program discounts are available to full-time law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and emergency services personnel.
