The Dominican Republic Medical Outreach Program provides free medical care to the underserved. Students, faculty and staff members, physicians, and other participants in the private sector volunteer their time and talents to provide medical services that would otherwise not be available. The goal is to provide quality care and build sustainable relationships with the opportunity to teach and practice. This unique opportunity offers the chance to serve medically needy populations and visit the remote regions of the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic outreach endeavor sends volunteers to rural areas outside of the capital of Santo Domingo (e.g. La Vega, Jarabacoa) to participate in a humanitarian effort to provide health care services to the communities. The Dominican Republic outreach trip allows participants to develop relationships with community residents, compile medical histories, and treat a variety of illnesses.
Immunization Requirements: No immunizations are required to enter the Dominican Republic. All routine immunizations should be up to date. Please check with your local health department, a travel physician or clinic or the Center for Disease Control (CDC) to see if they recommend anything for your trip.
Country Entry Requirements: A visa is not required. A US passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry is required. A $10 tourist card must be purchased when you enter the airport in the DR. All minors traveling need to leave with the same parent or guardian that they came with.
