Nova Southeastern University's Division of EMS Education and Training is a quality American Heart Association (AHA) training center offering CPR, BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Dental Airway Management Training in Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. As an AHA Regional Training Center we provide lifesaving training to the local community, businesses, and health care professionals.

Our courses are taught by NSU instructors who are emergency room physicians, nurses, and practicing paramedics.  As a department of Nova Southeastern University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (NSU-COM) we utilize the most up-to-date AHA treatment guidelines in our training to educate participants on how to provide the best quality care.

Course Offerings

The Heartsaver CPR AED course teaches basic CPR skills for non-healthcare providers.  Anyone is eligible for the CPR course and participants have ranged from high school students to personal trainers.  Don’t think you need the course?  More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside the hospital each year with less than half of them receiving the immediate help they need before professional help arrives.

Additional information about our Heartsaver CPR AED certification course can be found on our Heartsaver CPR AED course page

In partnership with NSU’s College of Dental Medicine, our newest course offering is a unique program designed to give participants a chance to learn, practice, and demonstrate their ability in applying many airway skills used in resuscitation.  This course is recommended for any dental professional performing or providing care to a sedated patient.

Update: New anesthesia rules recently became effective and expand services. The changes include the ability of Florida licensed dentists without an anesthesia permit who have completed a minimum of four hours of training in airway management to perform dental treatment on a patient who has been sedated by an anesthesia permit holder in the office of the permit holder. This training must be repeated every four years from the date the course was last taken by the dentist.

In addition, active sedation permit holders of every level must complete four hours of continuing education in airway management (must be live training) plus four hours in managing medical emergencies every four years from the last date the dentist took the continuing education course.

In the blended course format, participants complete an online eLearning section on their own time and then come to NSU for a skill evaluation session.  The skill evaluation session can range from 30 to 60 minutes depending upon the participant's course and skill level and is offered weekly on NSU's main campus.
